"But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved."

Ephesians 2:4-5

WHO IS JESUS?

It’s a great question. Jesus himself asked His closest disciples who the wider community thought He was. Some said He was a reincarnation of some prophets from Jewish history (Matthew 16:13-14). Others thought He was John the baptist who had been recently killed by King Herod (Matthew 16:13-14).

After listening to Peter, Jesus asked Peter who he thought He was. Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15-16). Today, many people have opinions about who Jesus is. Many think He is only a good bloke, a guru or a great moral teacher.

While we all have varying opinions on who Jesus is, what did Jesus actually say about himself? Jesus said this, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). Jesus claimed to be so much more than a good bloke, a miracle worker, or a great moral teacher. He claimed that He was the Messiah, God Himself.

A disciple by the name of Thomas doubted Jesus’ claims (John 20:24-25). Some time later, he met Jesus again, face to face, after Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus appeared and showed Thomas and others His wounds. He said to Thomas, “Stop doubting and believe.” (John 20:27). Thomas in response said, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Yet Jesus did not correct Thomas. Rather, Jesus said, “Because you’ve seen me, you’ve believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29).  In other words, He says, ‘At last – you were a bit slow getting the point Thomas – but you’re there now!’

Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
